Maire – Narrow leafed Maire, Nestegis montana, Maire rororo
There are four Maire of which all four are found in Northland but not in the Tangihua Ranges.
- Nestegis montana – Narrow-leaved Maire
- Nestegis cunninghamii – Black Maire
- Nestegis apetala – Coastal maire
- Nestegis lanceolate – White maire

Maire in the Tangihua forest are found…
on the Nature trail and in other parts of the forest. It tends to grow on ridge lines and drier slopes.
Narrow leafed Maire Description.
Narrow leafed Maire grows to 15m. Mature trees tend to have long slender trunks about 50cm in diameter with grey bark
They have long narrow leaves compared to other Maire, hence the name . on adults they are 7 cm long and only 6mm wide.
Flowers and seeds
The flowers are small cream and of both sexes on each tree. The fruit is red.
