Volunteers, Tangihua Lions Lodge Conservation project

Standing on the old Kauri dam site no 5, few people get to visit

Want to spend a nice day in the bush

It is very apparent that the fate of the Tangihua ranges depend on putting in place conservation strategies which will reduce or stop the damage inflicted by introduced pests

A great sense of satisfaction is gained from working on conservation projects. Taking action to protect our native bush is not only rewarding, you get to spend the day in a beautiful place.

It is the time spent in the bush which is the most enjoyable part

We all intend to spend more time getting away into the bush, but it never seems to happen. It is the one day or must do it soon occasion. Once you do get you there it is I should do this more often.

A text or an email about an up and coming day in the bush is often the incentive required to take time out for your self.

We tend to make this a social occasion as well. You will get to meet a number of people at the lodge, share a beer or two and yarn at the end of the day.

What skills do we require?

Eveyone has something to offer. This is a wide ranging project with a wide range of options

Lyns Team A group of ladies who had a regular Friday session up there, weather permitting of course

Tramping or just wandering around in the bush

We require people to lay and check traps and bait stations. Tramping  and inspecting traps means you not only have a good day out but you are helping to save our forest.

Passionate about native flora and Fauna?

Volunteers who know about the bush and will help pass on the information. People with good knowledge of flora and fauna to vet the website or contribute to it.

We are re-building the nature trail and need help identifying plants.  See learning to identify Northlands native plants

Love going bush with a camera

we need photographers for our website see here.  We will also be making videos to go on-line

Passionate about young people?

Teachers for helping set up teaching resources plus with ideas to set up resources in the bush for school camps

Are you articulate  – Website

Pottering around in a shed

We require traps and bait stations to be assembled.

Who can join

Any one can, you do not need to become a Lion.

There are many reasons why people to join us

  • Trampers who want to get fit enjoy the country side and at the same time put something back
  • Passionate conservationists
  • good company
  • People wanting an excuse to go bush.
  • A very satisfying excuse to get fit

The age ranges from 10 to 70 plus.

Time required

That is entirely up to you.

We have enough volunteers so we do not depend on any particular person turning up. I send out a text, email or notify people on the facebook page and if you can make it fine. We understand family and work commitments tend to come first.

Feel free to pop up to the lodge and have a look around

The lodge entrance is at 1095 Omana road. There are many good walking tracks. Have a listen and a look for birds.

What our volunteers do is vital for the future of our forest.
