Camping at the Tangihua Lions Lodge

Tents on the knob above the lions lodge

Camping can be part of any school camp or stay. We have five, four person tents which can be hired.

When camping a fire is always nice but there is often a fire ban on and no fires should be set in the Forest.

We have a space for tents if there are more people than bunks

In this situation people set up tents behind the clothes line on the knob above the small lodge. It is dry, out of the way and yet close to all the facilities.

There will be adequate room in the dining room etc for the additional campers

It is also used by schools and others for when people want to camp but not be too far away.

A close specific camping site

For some kids this is the first time camping so there is a learning curve and the dark is interesting.

We have a clearing with toilets about 10 minutes walk from the lodge just past the confidence course.

It is there so the tents are close enough to the teacher in charge, if there is an issue (there very seldom is) and yet far enough away to make it an adventure for the kids.

Campers can have their meals etc at the lodge and sleep over night in the tents with out difficulty or take gas stoves etc for cooking.

The camp site is well sheltered with a stream with good water for camp cooking.

There are two toilets which are clean and tidy by outdoor standards but no hand washing facilities. We have a 20 litre container you can take down and fill with water.

Bush camping away from the lodge.

There is a very nice swimming hole in a valley about an hours walk (for a school group).

Going there and setting up tends to take all day. There are no facilities at all

George Payne always did this with his Tuararoa Area School year 6 year students.

For many students and the parents this was the highlight of the school camp
