About the Tangihua Lions Lodge

The Lodge is run by the Tangihua Lions Lodge Trust, a non profit organisation

Our goal is to provide the opportunity for everyone to learn about, enjoy and help protect our natural environment.

We have been achieving this for over 30 years

The Lodge is designed as a camp facility and outdoor education centre. There are a wide range of bush type activities provided for no additional cost. The activities are available for anyone using the Lodge, be it for recreation, weddings, family celebrations or just a get-away in the bush.

The Tangihua Lions Lodge was constructed primarily as an outdoor education facility for schools in Northland.  We aim to minimise the cost for school camps so as many students as possible can use the facilities. We do this by hiring the Lodge to other groups and reinvesting the money back into the Lodge.  The more people that use the Lodge, the lower the costs are for schools, giving more students the chance to experience our wonderful forest.

Most of the maintenance and conservation work is done by volunteers to further reduce the costs.

Overall Goal

The aim of the Tangihua Lions Lodge Trust is to create and maintain a quality, accessible educational centre surrounded by a fully restored native ecosystem. To achieve this, we are working to;

• Protect the native habitat of the Tangihua Ranges,
• Reduce the number of pests and predators,
• Educate people and increase their understanding of the importance of these environments.

We already have good facilities that we have been upgrading and maintaining.  We have 1,500ha of the forest with pest control underway, plus trap lines for visitors to use.  We are working hard to update and expand our education facilities and available activities.
