Turutu, dianella nigra or New Zealand Blueberry.
The berries are poisonous and must not be eaten.

Turutu in the Tangihua Ranges

Turutu is found throughout the forest including and along the nature trail.  They are most noticeable when they have the blue berries or white flowers

Turutu description

A tussock like plant growing to 0.5m high and up to a metre wide.

Flowers and fruit

Flowers are Green and White November – December

Fruit is blue and comes out in December – May
